Marking the culmination of a three-year release schedule celebrating the distillery’s full-production rebirth in the year 2000, this ultimate release introduces a rare wood finish never before utilized in Ardbeg's history.
The Last of the Historic Stills
The Vintage_Y2K series carries a distinct historical weight. Beyond celebrating the turn of the century—and poking lighthearted fun at the millennium bug panic—the liquid inside originates from spirit distilled in Ardbeg’s historic 51-year-old wash still, which was permanently retired in 2001.
Following years of uncertainty and closure during the 1980s and 1990s, the Glenmorangie Company (under LVMH) acquired and revitalized the distillery in 1997. By 2000, Ardbeg was running at full capacity again. Because the original equipment was replaced shortly after, these three releases represent finite, unrepeatable stock from a pivotal transitional era.

Crafted by Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden, the 25-year-old bottling spent its initial maturation in ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred into Spanish Tempranillo red wine casks sourced from Bodega Numanthia in Toro, Spain—a fellow LVMH brand renowned for its intense, century-old ungrafted vines.
This marks the first time Ardbeg has ever finished spirit in Tempranillo casks, yielding a complex interplay between heavy Islay peat and rich Spanish red wine tannins.
