TL;DR

Wilder Heart launched on 27 October with two American whiskeys: a 47% ABV core expression and a 58.75% ABV Cask Strength debut. Both use three mash bills and whiskey aged at least four years. US pre-orders are open; Asian availability has not been announced in the release.

Two expressions, one starting point

Wilder Heart has entered the American whiskey market with a proposition centred on opening bottles rather than chasing rarity. Co-founded by Nate Woodruff, known for Whisky with a View, and VCL North America, the brand pairs its launch with an established podcast community and an outdoors-inspired identity.

According to its announcement, the whiskeys combine three distinct mash bills, with corn, rye, wheat and malted barley among the ingredients. The brand states that nothing is added. It does not disclose the mash-bill percentages or identify the producing distillery in the supplied release.

That makes “American whiskey” the appropriate description here: the announcement does not establish a more specific category such as bourbon or rye.

The launch follows several years’ development.

What is in the bottles?

The core Wilder Heart Whiskey is bottled at 47% ABV, equivalent to 94 US proof. The producer describes peach and apricot aromas, supported by brown sugar, cinnamon and orange peel. Its palate notes include red apple, citrus, vanilla and roasted marshmallow, followed by a bright finish.

Wilder Heart Cask Strength launches at 58.75% ABV, or 117.5 proof, for batch one. The brand’s notes emphasise honey, cherry and blackberry, moving towards baked apple, butterscotch, clove and sweet oak.

These are producer-supplied descriptions, not Whisky Bulletin tasting assessments. The stated strength applies to the first cask-strength batch and should not be assumed for subsequent releases.

People, packaging and availability

Woodruff’s partner, VCL North America, is part of UK-based spirits business VCL Vintners. The release describes its contribution as expertise in cask management, maturation and independent bottling. Doug Ward leads commercial strategy and daily operations as vice-president of sales and strategy.

Mountain, river and tree details on the bottles connect the packaging to the brand’s outdoor theme. Wilder Heart also introduces Basecamp, a community programme built around participation and rewards.

The launch is focused on the United States. The company says online pre-orders offer shipping to more than 40 states, with retail availability planned in Colorado, Missouri and Wyoming. Its website currently estimates that pre-orders will ship in early November. That remains an estimate, not confirmation of dispatch.

For readers in Asia, the announcement does not identify local distributors or launch dates.
