An online auction firm in Perth, Scotland, has reportedly made more than £50 million from the sale of whisky this year.
According to Whisky Auctioneer, many new records were set in Scottish distilleries in 2022 thanks to the high hammer prices of the lots sold.
While a 12-year-old Port Ellen whisky sold for £100k, the highest expensive Ardbeg ever sold was for £35,000 (a 1974 vintage).
Bidders in Hong Kong and Switzerland won the bottles.

This year, the Whisky Auctioneer received 2.2 million bids on 115,000 products, then dispatched to customers in 67 countries.
Scotland-based entrepreneur Iain McClune’s firm now has a total workforce of 74 after hiring 21 individuals in the UK and Germany in only the last year.
Mr. McClune reflected on 2022, saying, “2022 was another year of advancement at Whisky Auctioneer, with the establishment of our London office, record-breaking results, and the creation of new and ongoing collaborations throughout the whisky sector.
We’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2023, and that’s something to look forwards to.
